Job description

About HumanSignal

Real-world data is the competitive edge in AI.

HumanSignal is a human data partner for companies building AI models and products. Our customers ship better AI, faster, because we partner with their researchers from real-world data creation to annotation to delivery.

We design and create datasets from scratch, recruit and manage the domain experts who evaluate model output, and run everything through our own platform, Label Studio, the open-source standard for data labeling and evaluation, used by over 1 million practitioners worldwide.

We specialize in the operationally complex: real-world data collection, multimodal pipelines, and multi-step workflows. Advanced ML and AI teams use our enterprise platform to run their own data factories, and our services team to extend their reach where in-house capacity runs out.

If you want to do work that materially shapes how the next generation of AI products gets built, we'd love to talk.

Tech Ops Specialist

HumanSignal is looking for a Tech Ops Specialist in the Hoboken area to support the technical setup and operation of scripted audio and video recording sessions. You'll work with cameras, microphones, audio recorders, and other production equipment, following established playbooks to ensure recordings are captured accurately, consistently, and without unnecessary interruptions.

This is a hands-on, technical role that could be a great fit for AV technicians, audio enthusiasts, studio assistants, IT support professionals, or anyone who enjoys working with technology, troubleshooting problems, and figuring things out quickly.

What you’ll do

  • Set up and operate audio and video recording equipment according to established production playbooks and technical guidelines.
  • Work with equipment such as condenser and dynamic microphones, Sennheiser systems, Zoom F3 and H3-VR recorders, DJI Mic systems, and Insta360 cameras.
  • Perform pre-session technical checks to verify equipment connections, recording levels, microphone placement, camera framing, and overall recording readiness.
  • Monitor audio and video recordings throughout sessions, identifying potential issues before they affect recording quality.
  • Troubleshoot technical problems as they arise, working quickly and persistently through established troubleshooting steps to minimize downtime.
  • Follow standardized recording procedures, equipment configurations, and quality checks to maintain consistency across sessions.
  • Manage recording files, verify successful transfers and backups, and follow established data offload and equipment reset procedures.
  • Keep equipment organized, charged, maintained, and ready for upcoming sessions.
  • Work closely with the Director and Scene Assistant to support timely setup, scene transitions, and uninterrupted filming.
  • Document recurring technical issues, communicate challenges, and flag opportunities to improve existing playbooks and workflows.

Who you are

  • You're tech-savvy, hands-on, and comfortable learning and working with different types of recording equipment.
  • You're a quick, persistent problem-solver who enjoys troubleshooting and figuring out why something isn't working.
  • You can follow detailed technical instructions and established playbooks accurately and consistently.
  • You're detail-oriented and understand the importance of reliable equipment setup and recording quality.
  • You can stay calm under pressure, troubleshoot methodically, and know when to escalate issues.
  • You're dependable, organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Experience with audio/video recording equipment, AV support, studio operations, or technical troubleshooting is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Zoom recorders, Insta360 cameras, DJI Mic systems, Sennheiser equipment, or multichannel audio recording is a plus.

Physical & field requirements

The following are essential functions of this field-based role and must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Carry approximately 20-30 pounds of field equipment between sets.

HumanSignal will consider reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities to enable them to perform the essential functions of the role.

Details

  • Contract Duration: To be confirmed during the recruitment process
  • Up to 40 hours per week
  • $20 to $30 per hour, depending on relevant experience
  • Occasional evening and weekend availability required
  • In-person, studio-based role in Hoboken, NJ and surrounding areas
