Job title
Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)
Job location
Bangalore
Job description

Emergent builds autonomous coding agents that replace traditional software development by generating, testing, and deploying production applications directly from plain-language intent. Our systems run in production at global scale and are used to build millions of real applications.

Since our public launch, we've crossed $130M in Annualised Revenue and grown to over 10M users across 190+ countries, who have built 12M+ applications on Emergent. We're backed by Creaegis, Khosla Ventures, SoftBank, Lightspeed, Together, Y Combinator, Google, Claypond and Sentinel Global.

We're solving the hard part of AI-driven software creation: correctness, reliability, security, and scale in real production systems. The team is built by repeat founders, Olympiad medalists, IIT & IIM alumni, and leaders from Google, Amazon, and Dropbox.

We're hiring builders who want ownership, speed, and impact at global scale.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain automated tests for web applications, APIs, and end-to-end user journeys.
  • Build reusable automation frameworks, utilities, and test infrastructure that scale with product complexity.
  • Develop and maintain UI automation using Playwright or similar modern automation frameworks.
  • Write automated API and integration tests covering functional behavior, error scenarios, and edge cases.
  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and improve execution speed, reliability, and feedback time.
  • Identify product risks early and work with developers and product managers to improve testability and prevent defects.
  • Investigate test failures, perform root cause analysis, and improve automation stability.
  • Use AI-assisted development and testing tools to improve test creation, debugging, coverage, and maintenance.
  • Test AI-powered product workflows, including dynamic UI behavior, generated outputs, failure scenarios, and regression risks.
  • Take end-to-end ownership of quality for assigned features, from requirement analysis to release validation.
  • Track automation coverage, defect trends, and test reliability to continuously improve quality.

Required skills and experience

  • 3–6 years of experience in software testing, test automation, or SDET roles.
  • Strong programming skills in Python or TypeScript.
  • Hands-on experience with Playwright, or an equivalent browser automation framework.
  • Good understanding of API testing, REST, HTTP, JSON, authentication, and integration testing.
  • Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and automated test execution.
  • Strong understanding of test design, boundary-value analysis, negative testing, and risk-based testing.
  • Experience building or extending reusable automation frameworks.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate failures using logs, traces, and network requests.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers and product managers in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong ownership, attention to detail, and clear communication.

Good to have

  • Experience testing AI-powered applications or LLM-based features.
  • Familiarity with AI coding assistants and agent-based testing approaches.
  • Experience with mobile automation, performance testing, or observability tools.
  • Experience with Docker, cloud environments, and distributed systems.

Benefits and Perks

  1. Daily Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner provided.

  2. Family Insurance: 5 Lakhs worth of coverage for you and your family.

  3. Unlimited Paid Time Off: Take the time you need to recharge and come back refreshed.
