- # Product Engineer
**San Francisco · In-Person · Full-Time**
Overlap builds AI agents that turn long-form video into high-performing short-form content for many of the world’s largest media companies.
Our software identifies the best moments in video, edits and styles them, and distributes them across social platforms — automating work that traditionally requires teams of editors and social media managers.
We work with some of the largest media companies in the world and thousands of creators. We’re a small, fast-moving team, and we’re looking for an exceptional **Product Engineer** to help build the next generation of Overlap.
## The Role
You’ll work directly with the founders and have significant ownership over what we build and how we build it.
This is not a narrowly scoped frontend or backend role. You’ll work across the product and engineering stack, taking features from idea → production and working closely with the customers using them.
You’ll:
* Build and ship core product features across our **Next.js frontend and Python backend**
* Turn customer problems into products
* Build AI-native product experiences and agentic workflows
* Own projects end-to-end: architecture, implementation, deployment, and iteration
* Improve the performance and reliability of our infrastructure
* Work across our Google Cloud stack
* Contribute to product and interface design
* Move quickly, talk to users, and ship constantly
You’ll have an unusual amount of autonomy and responsibility from day one.
## Who We're Looking For
We care much more about **how good you are at building** than how many years you’ve been doing it.
You’re likely a strong fit if you:
* Have built and deployed real web products
* Are an excellent programmer and problem solver
* Proficient in using frontier coding agents
* Move quickly without sacrificing quality
* Are comfortable owning ambiguous problems with little hand-holding
* Have strong product instincts and care about the details users notice
* Thrive in a high-intensity startup environment
### Especially Valuable
* Experience building products **0→1**
* Exceptional proficiency with AI coding tools and agentic development workflows
* Experience with **Next.js, React, Python, or FastAPI**
* Experience with **GCP, Firebase, Kubernetes, or cloud infrastructure**
* Experience building with LLMs, multimodal AI, video, or machine learning systems
* Strong design instincts or experience with Figma
* Previous startup or high-ownership engineering experience
You do **not** need to check every box. If you’re an unusually strong builder, we want to hear from you.
