Job title
Head of Financial Accounting & Audit
Job location
Rookery Factory, Chilcompton
Job description
Born in 1971, the roots of Mulberry are in Somerset, England. For more than fifty years, Mulberry has been a British lifestyle brand, internationally acclaimed for quality and design capturing the Mulberry Spirit.

Sustainability has been part of the Mulberry ethos since the brand's inception, in recognition of our purpose-driven approach, in 2024 we proudly achieved B Corp Certification.

Today, we are a global brand, but our values remain the same; we are committed to improving our impact on people and the planet. To do this our people are honest, dynamic, and community spirited.

If these are values you share, we would love you to join our team.

We’re looking for a Head of Financial Accounting & Audit to join our Finance team and lead statutory reporting, audit compliance and financial control across our global, multi-entity AIM-listed business.

This is a senior role with plenty of visibility across the business, working closely with Finance, Tax, Legal and our external partners to maintain a strong financial control environment while continuing to simplify and improve the way we work.

Why join Mulberry?

Joining our Finance team is a great opportunity to play a key role in how we manage financial reporting, governance and audit across the Group.

Alongside leading our core reporting and control requirements, you’ll have the opportunity to influence how we work, identify opportunities to simplify and improve our processes, and partner with teams across the business to support Mulberry’s strategic priorities.

What you’ll be doing

  • Maintain and continually enhance standards for financial reporting, governance and control across the Group.
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS, UK GAAP, Companies Act and AIM reporting requirements, acting as a trusted advisor on relevant accounting standards, legislation and upcoming changes.
  • Lead Group consolidation and statutory reporting, working with our regional Finance teams to support compliance and effective audit relationships.
  • Work closely with the Head of Finance Operations to ensure significant accounting judgements, risks and exposures are understood and appropriately managed.
  • Take ownership of intercompany accounting across the Group.
  • Manage our external audit relationships and support Audit Committee activities.
  • Lead balance sheet governance across Finance, ensuring potential risks and opportunities are identified and understood.
  • Support acquisitions, disposals, entity restructurings and legal entity simplification projects.
  • Identify opportunities to standardise, automate and simplify processes across Finance.
  • Build strong partnerships with Tax, Finance, Legal and external auditors and advisors.
  • Work closely with the Head of Tax and Head of Finance Operations as part of the Financial Control SLT.
  • Provide clear and insightful reporting to senior stakeholders, helping them understand financial performance, governance matters and complex technical accounting issues.

What we’re looking for

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • ACA, ACCA or an equivalent accounting qualification, with significant post-qualified experience gained within a complex, multi-entity environment.
  • Experience working within a listed or regulated business, with a strong understanding of the associated reporting and governance requirements.
  • Strong technical knowledge of IFRS and UK GAAP.
  • Extensive experience leading Group consolidation, statutory reporting and external audit programmes.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and experience working with Tax, Finance, external auditors and advisors.
  • A proactive and practical approach to problem solving, with the confidence to challenge and improve the way things are done.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to make complex financial information clear and accessible to a range of stakeholders.
  • A collaborative approach, natural curiosity and strong attention to detail.

Mulberry Culture:

  • Embrace and demonstrate the Mulberry values and behaviours: honesty, dynamism, and a community-oriented spirit.
  • Support Mulberry to deliver an inclusive culture, through behaving in a way that is open-minded and respectful towards others, and understanding that your views, opinions, and experiences may not always be shared by your colleagues.
  • Act as an ambassador for Mulberry and communicate positively about the brand.

Sustainability:

  • As a certified B Corp, we are committed to using business as a force for good. You’ll be encouraged to incorporate environmentally and socially responsible practices into your work, supporting our Made to Last strategy across Climate, Circularity, and Community.
  • Help foster a culture where diversity is celebrated and every individual feels valued, respected, and included. Champion equity, empathy, and understanding in all interactions - internally and externally.

What we can do for you

  • Competitive salary
  • Hybrid working, with a minimum of 3 days per week based in our Chilcompton office
  • Generous staff discount and access to staff sales
  • Birthday day off
  • Pension contributions and life assurance
  • Learning and development opportunities
  • Two paid volunteering days per year
  • Access to Help@Hand wellbeing support, including remote GP appointments, mental health support, physiotherapy, personal training and retail discounts
