Job description

About Phonely:

At some point in the future, every business will answer their phone with voice AI. We are building the platform that makes it possible.

Phonely builds conversational voice AI agents for high volume phone workflows. Our customers use us to qualify leads, book appointments, route calls, and resolve real customer conversations in production. We just raised a Series A from top-tier investors, we are one of the fastest growing companies in San Francisco, and we are still early.

About the Role:

Audiences get built on stories. Distribution matters, but only after someone has something worth saying.

This role is for someone who can find those stories, shape them, and make people care. You will own how Phonely shows up in public.

Our buyers are not a generic tech audience. They run phone lines for a living: car dealerships, home services companies, insurance agencies, lenders. They do not wake up looking for AI content. Your job is to make them stop, watch, and care about what happens on their phones.

Nobody has built this at Phonely before. There is no playbook, so you will write it. This is on-site in San Francisco, five days a week, working directly with the founders.

What You’ll Do:

• Own the public voice: what we sound like, what we talk about, and what people remember us for.

• Publish constantly: start at 5 to 10 pieces a week and ramp. The best company in our category publishes 10 times a week. We want to pass them.

• Build the system behind the output: your taste sets direction, AI tools and repeatable workflows carry the lift. Forty good pieces a month beats eight perfect ones.

• Mine the tape for stories: find the moments that show what is actually changing on real phone lines, then get them out fast.

• Run the whole chain: concept, shoot, direct, edit, publish, reply.

• Put the right people on camera: sometimes you, sometimes an engineer, a rep, a founder, or a customer.

• Figure out the channels: start with LinkedIn, YouTube, and Meta, then go wherever our buyers actually spend time.

• Turn shoot days into paid creative: cut the best moments into assets the growth team can put spend behind.

• Learn from the people closest to the work: the engineers building the models, the reps selling it, the customers running their businesses on it.

• Represent Phonely outside the office: launches, customer sites, industry events, podcasts, anywhere the story should be told.

What You’ll Bring:

• A body of work nobody assigned you. A hundred pieces or more on your own account, no client, no brief.

• AI-native production habits. You already use tools to multiply your output and have opinions about which ones actually help.

• Comfort on camera without a script. One take, phone camera, no autocue.

• A sharp read on your own work. You can explain why one piece landed and another did not.

• Range across the production chain: shooting, producing, editing, and publishing with whatever tools you taught yourself.

Bonus Points:

• You are an athlete, or you have a background worth telling a story about.

• You have made paid creative for a startup.

• You have worked at an early-stage company.

Where you went to school, and whether you have held this title before, are not the point. We will read what you made.

What Success Looks Like

In your first 6 to 12 months:

• Cadence: a daily rhythm that holds, with a production system that makes the next piece easier than the last.

• Audience: real growth on Phonely’s channels from a standing start.

• Measurement: total impressions, impressions viewed, marketing qualified leads, and conversion from content engagement into qualified sales conversations.

• Voice: a Phonely voice on camera the rest of the team can learn from and repeat.

Why Join Phonely:

We are a team of ex-athletes, founders, and builders with low egos and high standards. We take the work seriously without taking ourselves too seriously. On-site in San Francisco, meals covered, quarterly offsites to interesting places (Rocky Mountains, Costa Rica, Indonesia), and meaningful equity in a company that is growing fast. You will work directly with the founders and have real ownership over the brand.

The brand you build will be Phonely’s, but the work will be yours, and we will say so publicly.

Interview Process:

1. 15 minute intro call to hear your story and what you have built.

2. Send your best performing piece plus a 60 second video shot on your phone, one take, no script: a true story about a phone call that changed something.

3. Portfolio review. We go through your feed together and talk through two pieces, one that landed and one that did not.

4. Paid test week at your day rate. Two days with us, twenty pieces published by Friday, at least five on subjects you chose. Then show us the system you built to make twenty possible.

5. Final conversation with Will.

Details:

• Location: San Francisco, CA (on-site, 5 days a week)

• Type: Full time

• Compensation: $80K to $150K, offers equity
