Job description
Americans for Prosperity (AFP) is the premier grassroots organization focused on advocating solutions to the country’s greatest challenges. We recognize that tens of millions of Americans are frustrated with the extreme partisanship in government that keeps common-sense reforms from being passed, and instead seek to stand with policy leaders who are committed to finding a better way.
Americans for Prosperity is part of the Stand Together philanthropic community.

As a Federal Lobbyist (internal title: Federal Legislative Liaison), you will advocate for AFP’s positions in Washington, D.C., working under the direction of the Director of Federal Affairs. Your goal: break down the barriers that stand in the way of people realizing their full potential.

You will focus on federal legislative advocacy in three key policy areas: economics, energy, and AI and emerging technology.

This role is ideal for a motivated government affairs professional with a few years of Capitol Hill, state legislative, or advocacy experience who is ready to take on greater lobbying responsibility. You will build relationships with congressional offices, coalition partners, trade associations, and think tanks, and grow into a trusted voice for AFP on the Hill. You should share our commitment to advancing every individual’s right to economic opportunity through free markets.

How You Will Contribute
  • Build and maintain relationships with congressional staff, members of Congress, and federal agency contacts to advance AFP’s legislative priorities on economics, energy, and AI and emerging technology
  • Conduct meetings with congressional offices to advocate for AFP’s positions, with guidance from the Director of Federal Affairs
  • Monitor, research, and analyze federal legislative and regulatory developments, and track pending legislation
  • Draft and update position papers, fact sheets, talking points, letters, and briefing materials
  • Provide liaison and resource support to members of Congress, coalition partners, volunteers, and activists
  • Support the preparation of testimony, comment letters, and presentations for senior team members
  • Partner with the policy team to share Hill intelligence and inform ongoing policy initiatives
  • Coordinate with the government affairs, communications, legal, and research teams to align advocacy with organizational priorities
  • Participate in coalition meetings with trade associations and think tanks to advance shared policy objectives
