Job title
Federal Affairs Coordinator and Legislative Aide
Job location
Washington, DC
Job description
Americans for Prosperity (AFP) is the premier grassroots organization focused on advocating solutions to the country’s greatest challenges. We recognize that tens of millions of Americans are frustrated with the extreme partisanship in government that keeps common-sense reforms from being passed, and instead seek to stand with policy leaders who are committed to finding a better way.
Americans for Prosperity is part of the Stand Together philanthropic community.

As the Federal Affairs Coordinator and Legislative Aide, you will keep our Federal Government Affairs team running at its best while supporting our federal lobbyists with legislative research and bill tracking. Reporting to the Director of Federal Government Affairs, you will manage the operations, budget, and communications that free our team to focus on winning public policy change that expands freedom and opportunity.

This is a high-visibility, high-trust role for a skilled administrator with Capitol Hill or advocacy experience, sound judgment, and a bias for action. You will support three national brands (Americans for Prosperity, Concerned Veterans for America, and The LIBRE Initiative) and work regularly with congressional offices, coalition partners, and senior leadership.

How You Will Contribute

Team Operations and Knowledge Systems

  • Manage daily operations for the federal government affairs team across AFP, CVA, and The LIBRE Initiative
  • Maintain team calendars, internal trackers, shared tools, and legislative databases
  • Budget and Finance

  • Track the team budget in EPS with the Director of Federal Government Affairs, and compare actual spending against plan
  • Process invoices and p-card expense reports in Concur, working with finance and accounting teams on time and with accuracy
  • Prepare budget reports and support quarterly financial reviews for leadership
  • Systems and Communications

  • Send Quorum email blasts for the federal affairs team and train a backup to keep operations running
  • Keep the team’s web content accurate and aligned with organizational messaging
  • Run the legislative scorecard process, including vote tracking, coordination with policy staff, and timely publication
  • Manage technology systems and software subscriptions, and work with IT on troubleshooting and purchases
  • Legislative Support

  • Research and analyze bills, amendments, and policy issues across all three brands
  • Track bills through committee and floor votes, and keep the team informed of every move
  • Attend committee hearings, floor sessions, events, and press conferences on behalf of the team
  • What You Will Bring
  • 3–5+ years of experience in operations, administration, or government affairs
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities with precision and composure in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment with limited supervision
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational discipline, and written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, project management tools, and legislative platforms such as Quorum, Airtable, and IQ
  • Stand Out Candidates Will Also Bring
  • Experience on Capitol Hill or at a national advocacy organization
  • Familiarity with Concur, EPS, and Quorum
  • Genuine enthusiasm for the mission and values of Americans for Prosperity and free-market advocacy
  • What We Offer
  • Competitive benefits: Enjoy a 6% 401(k) match with immediate vesting, flexible time off, comprehensive health and dental plans, plus wellness and mental health support through Peloton and Talkspace.
    • A meaningful career: Join a passionate community of over 1,300 employees dedicated to improving lives and driving innovative solutions to complex social challenges.
    • Commitment to growth: Thrive in a non-hierarchical environment that empowers employees to discover, develop and apply their unique talents.
    • For this role, the anticipated base salary range is $70,000–$100,000 per year. This role may also be eligible for additional bonus compensation designed to align total compensation with an employee’s overall contribution to the organization.

Our Principles-Based Management™ (PBM) compensation philosophy is grounded in an individualized approach that rewards the long-term value each person creates for the organization. Compensation decisions are informed by a variety of factors, including relevant experience, capabilities, demonstrated skills, role responsibilities, and expected contribution. Consistent with this approach, base salary may vary within or outside of the anticipated range based on these considerations.
