Backend Engineer (Mid–Senior)
About the role
We're seeking a mid-to-senior backend engineer to join our team and help build our cloud security platform. In this role, you won't just write code — you'll also wear an entrepreneurial hat, collaborating closely with our leaders outside engineering, along with customers, partners, and investors, as we take our product from 0 → 1 → N. We're looking for someone who has already shipped and owned production systems and is ready to bring that experience to a fast-moving startup environment.
Bedrock Security is the latest investment of Greylock Partners. Greylock has backed a number of successful startups, including Palo Alto Networks, Sumo Logic, and Abnormal Security, along with non-security companies such as Airbnb, Figma, and Roblox.
What you'll do
Design and implement backend logic
- Architect and build robust, scalable services from the ground up.
- Own service security, performance, and scalability end to end.
- Work across our technology stack, including Golang, Python, Node, AWS infrastructure, Neo4j, and more.
Move the needle at a scrappy startup
- Partner closely with other engineers, product management, marketing, and customers.
- Drive architectural decisions and system design, weighing in on trade-offs with limited precedent to draw on.
Drive innovation
- Shape the future of data security as part of the core creative process.
- Identify complex challenges and propose and implement novel solutions, with minimal oversight.
Mentor and raise the bar
- Provide technical guidance and code review feedback to other engineers.
- Help establish and improve engineering practices, standards, and tooling as the team scales.
Continuous learning and adaptation
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies.
- Adapt quickly to changing requirements and business needs.
Compensation
Bedrock hires across a range of experience levels for this role. The estimated annual base salary range for this position is $150,000 to $230,000 USD, depending on experience, scope, and leveling determined during the interview process. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for equity compensation and benefits.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 4+ years of professional experience as a backend engineer, ideally including some time in a security-related domain.
- Demonstrated track record of independently designing, building, and owning production services from concept through deployment.
- Proficiency with backend technologies and databases relevant to our stack (e.g., Golang, Python, Node, SQL, Neo4j).
- Experience contributing to architectural and system design decisions, not just implementation.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal guidance.
- Entrepreneurial mindset, comfort with ambiguity, and a willingness to take ownership beyond your immediate scope.
- Bonus: experience mentoring other engineers or leading small technical initiatives.
