Director Sales, US

Job description

What Your Experience Will Be

As Director of Sales, US, you'll run point on our entire Account Executive team during a pivotal stretch: leading the day-to-day of pipeline, forecasting, coaching, and deal support while we scale up our SMB team. You will lead and scale a team of up to 10 Account Executives, driving consistent execution while elevating the maturity of our go-to-market motion. You'll report directly to the Head of Revenue, a direct line that gives you real decision-making authority.

This role is both strategic and hands-on. Day to day, you're running deal reviews and forecast calls with every AE, coaching reps through their pipeline, and making the judgment calls a sales floor needs in real time. You'll work closely with the CX/Revenue team to keep the handoff from closed-won to onboarding clean, as well as collaborating with the Product and Marketing teams to maintain a healthy feedback loop on the SMB sales motion.

You will be responsible not just for hitting the number, but for building a repeatable, scalable sales engine, establishing standards, reinforcing best practices, and developing future sales leaders.

Why You Belong Here and How You Will Grow

You thrive in environments where expectations are high and ambiguity exists, but progress is rewarded. You believe great sales leadership is rooted in clarity, consistency, and trust. You'll be trusted with real authority from day one. Our value, "Overachiever Fever" is the operating norm here - we're looking for someone who wants the pressure of proving it, not someone who needs a mature team to lead successfully. Your growth path is explicit: succeed in this capacity, stabilize and grow the function, and your scope grows with it.

What Success Looks Like

  • Revenue & Forecast Ownership
Own the SMB revenue number with disciplined forecasting accuracy and consistent attainment. Ensure healthy pipeline coverage and predictable execution across all AEs. The AE team consistently hits (or beats) forecasts.
  • Team Leadership & Development
Hire, onboard, coach, and develop a high-performing team of Account Executives. Set clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and actively develop top performers into senior sellers and future leaders. weekly 1:1s with every AE are the baseline.
  • Pipeline & Deal Rigor
Establish and enforce strong pipeline hygiene, deal inspection, and qualification standards. Coach AEs through complex, multi-stakeholder deals with a focus on value articulation and ROI.
  • Go-To-Market Execution
Partner with Marketing and Rev Ops to align Focus Market and Region strategy, demand generation, and outbound focus. Ensure smooth handoffs and clear accountability across the funnel. Be in-field with AEs to drive new business and expansion revenue growth, with particular emphasis on SMB Focus Markets.
  • Cross-Functional Influence
Serve as a key voice of the customer and field insights back to Product, Customer Success, and Leadership. Help shape messaging, pricing feedback, and roadmap prioritization based on market signals.
  • Culture & Standards
Model Slang AI’s values: AI Native, Humility Ability, Overachiever Fever, Be a Good Host. Create a team culture rooted in accountability, trust, and continuous improvement.

What You Will Bring

  • You bring 5+ years of B2B SaaS sales experience, including 3+ years leading and scaling AE teams. You have managed teams of 6–10+ field sellers / outside sales and owned a regional or segment-level number.
  • You have a strong command of modern sales methodologies and understand how to coach both early-career and senior AEs. You know how to inspect deals, forecast accurately, and drive performance without micromanaging.
  • You are data-driven and comfortable working closely with RevOps on pipeline analytics, territory design, and capacity planning. You understand how to balance short-term execution with long-term scale.
  • Active use of AI tools in your own sales workflow - prospecting, forecasting, call prep - not just familiarity with the concept.
  • A management and collaboration style consistent with "Be a Good Host": you make the people around you better, not just your own number.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with Slang's product or the restaurant/hospitality vertical

How Work Effects My Life

Your work as Director of Sales will have a direct impact on Slang AI’s growth trajectory. This is a visible, high-trust role - expect close contact with senior leadership and real accountability from the start, balanced by real influence over how the AE team runs.

  • Work primarily remote with 25-50% travel: regular in-person time with the AE team, travel to NYC HQ with other members of the leadership team, as well as occasional travel to industry conferences.
  • Competitive salary reflecting the scope of leading the full SMB Sales function
  • Comprehensive benefits including health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Direct mentorship from the Head of Revenue
  • Contribute to a company mission that transforms the restaurant and hospitality industry

Compensation & Location

Compensation for this role is location-based and benchmarked against local market data aligned to the employee’s primary work location. Total compensation includes a mix of cash and equity and may vary by location, role level, and experience. Our range is therefore wide and not meant as a negotiation range.

Our Vision

Calling a business shouldn’t feel like a robot-hostage situation, where you’re forced to listen to horrible music and can't reach a human, while enduring a soulless voice uttering "I'm sorry I didn't quite get that" on repeat for eternity. (shudder) That’s why we started Slang AI We use the latest AI and audio wizardry to make transacting via voice so enjoyable it’s more human than human. By 2030, we will save businesses and consumers 1 billion minutes of precious time while transforming voice channels into the preferred mode of communication (it's faster and easier than text).

We have backgrounds building product at companies like Spotify, Buzzfeed, the New York Times, and OpenTable —shipping experiences that have reached hundreds of millions of users. Now, we’re using our backgrounds to start a new culture, one that puts product and human-centered design above all else while fostering constant learning and growth. Sound like something you’d like to be part of? Get on board.

Our Values

Overachiever Fever. We’re overachievers (we don’t know any other way)

AI Native. We don't just sell AI. We are Al.

Humility Ability. We approach each other with curiosity and openness (know-it-alls not welcome!)

Be A Good Host. We build for hospitality. We should embody it.
