Job description
About PayJoy
PayJoy, a Public Benefit Corporation, is a mission-first credit provider dedicated to helping under-served customers in emerging markets to achieve financial stability and success. Our patented technology for secured credit provides an on-ramp for new customers to enter the credit system. Through PayJoy’s point-of-sale financing and card offerings, customers gain access to a modern quality of life. PayJoy’s credit also allows our customers to seize opportunities as micro-entrepreneurs, and acts as insurance for tough times. Through our cutting-edge machine learning, data science, and anti-fraud AI, we have served over 18 million customers as of 2025 while achieving solid profitability for sustainable growth.
This role

As Director of Product Management, Onboarding, you will lead a team of four product managers responsible for one of the most critical parts of PayJoy's business: the journey that brings customers to originate a loan.

You will own the vision for the end-to-end onboarding experience across both digital and in-store channels, with digital as an increasingly important focus for the team. As PayJoy expands, you will play a key role in launching new countries, guiding the strategic decisions of where to build global, scalable solutions versus where to localize for specific markets.

Your teams will span:

  • Application — Optimizing for a fast, transparent digital application that adheres to local regulation in every market we serve.

  • Direct-to-Consumer — Building fully digital acquisition journeys that don't begin in a physical store, a fast-growing channel for PayJoy.

  • Enterprise — Building digital solutions that empower our partners to onboard more customers with PayJoy, turning those relationships into a powerful engine for growth.

  • Offers/Risk — Refining how offers are presented and bringing in new data sources that let us underwrite customers who are newer to credit or have thinner credit histories.

Responsibilities

Vision & strategy

  • Define and drive the multi-year product strategy for PayJoy's onboarding experience.

  • Capitalize on incoming customer demand by designing personalized, high-converting onboarding journeys across digital and in-store channels.

  • Set the strategy for launching onboarding in new countries as PayJoy expands — deciding where to build global, scalable solutions versus where to localize for specific markets.

  • Identify opportunities to extend onboarding beyond loan origination — including pre-qualification, cross-sell at the point of application, and reactivation of returning customers.

  • Team leadership & delivery

  • Lead, coach, and grow a team of four product managers, setting a high quality bar and empowering them to own end-to-end delivery across their surfaces — from discovery and prioritization through launch and iteration.

  • Set the direction and standards for application flow, data architecture, performance, and UX consistency across digital and in-store channels, and hold the team accountable to them.

  • Establish the operating rhythm and prioritization framework your team uses to make sharp trade-offs and ship with both quality and speed.

  • Ensure onboarding launches in new markets land quickly and compliantly, guiding the team's build-global-versus-localize decisions and holding the bar on regulatory requirements in every market.

  • Cross-functional leadership

  • Partner deeply with Engineering leadership to align on architecture decisions, build out onboarding best practices, and scale onboarding capacity.

  • Own key business KPIs such as conversion rate through the onboarding funnel and cost per approved customer.

  • Ensure onboarding investments accelerate core revenue to the business.

  • Influence senior stakeholders across Product, Engineering, Design, Data, and Operations to align on priorities and trade-offs.

  • Qualifications
  • 8+ years of product management experience, with at least 5 years in a senior or staff-level role.

  • Demonstrated experience building and scaling consumer products — ideally at a company that's gone through a period of rapid growth or a platform inflection point.

  • Deep expertise across the customer journey: acquisition and onboarding funnels, conversion optimization, and the data infrastructure that supports them.

  • Strong background in fintech or consumer financial services preferred

  • Proven ability to translate ambiguous strategic goals into clear roadmaps, sharp prioritization decisions, and measurable outcomes.

  • Ability to drive the analytical measurement of the team — ensuring the right instrumentation is in place to build dashboards, track performance, and continuously monitor the health of the product.

  • Experience leading and inspiring product teams, managing multiple workstreams and stakeholders at significant scale.

  • Exceptional cross-functional influencer across engineering, design, data, risk, and operations — without relying on formal authority.

  • Fluency in English, written and spoken.

  • Nice to have

  • Experience with platform-level product architecture — particularly secured/unsecured or credit lifecycle product models.

  • Background in emerging markets, LATAM, or building products for underbanked consumer segments.

  • Hands-on experience with conversion optimization, growth loops, or customer data platforms and communication tooling.

  • SQL fluency or equivalent ability to self-serve product insights from data.

  • Benefits
  • 100% Company-funded Health and dental and vision discount plan for employees and immediate family members.
  • Life insurance.
  • Phone finance, Headphone, home office equipment and wellness perks.
  • 30 days of Christmas bonus
  • 20 days paid Vacation
  • 50% Vacation premium
  • 13% Saving funds
  • $2,000 MXN monthly grocery coupons
  • $2,000 USD annual Co-working Travel perk
  • $2,000 USD annual Professional Development perk
  • Catered lunches
