Job description

Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) – Portland, OR

Mt. Scott Animal Clinic is seeking a skilled Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) to join our 4-doctor practice! We are looking for a confident, organized, and team-oriented technician with strong surgical skills who takes pride in providing exceptional patient care.

About Mt. Scott Animal Clinic

Serving the Portland community since 1969, Mt. Scott Animal Clinic is an inclusive, supportive, and fun team that believes taking care of one another is just as important as taking care of our patients. We prioritize Fear Free medicine and patient emotional well-being, with all team members Fear Free Certified and the clinic working toward whole-hospital certification.

Our recently completed renovations added two new exam rooms, a client-facing restroom, and an updated reception area as we continue growing toward our goal of becoming a four-doctor practice. Outside the clinic, our team enjoys giving back to the community through volunteering and fundraising with the Portland Street Dog Coalition, attending Portland Pickles baseball games, and supporting neighborhood cleanup efforts recognized by the Lents Community Association.

What You'll Do:

  • Prepare patients for surgery, including surgical site preparation and patient monitoring.

  • Monitor anesthesia and recognize changes in patient status, responding appropriately to keep patients safe.

  • Monitor and interpret vital signs, including ECG, SpO2, CO2, blood pressure, and temperature.

  • Troubleshoot anesthesia machine readings and equipment as needed.

  • Provide attentive patient care throughout surgical recovery.

  • Maintain an organized and efficient surgical area to help keep procedures running smoothly.

  • Collaborate with veterinarians and fellow team members to deliver high-quality, compassionate care.

  • Support our Fear Free philosophy and provide excellent client education and service.

What We're Looking For:

  • Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT).

  • Strong hands-on experience with surgical preparation, anesthesia monitoring, and patient recovery.

  • Knowledge of vital sign monitoring and the ability to recognize and troubleshoot abnormal anesthesia readings.

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.

  • Ability to anticipate the needs of the surgical team and keep procedures flowing efficiently.

  • A collaborative, compassionate approach to patient care and teamwork.

  • Current CPR certification is a plus!

Compensation & Schedule:

  • Pay Range: $25–$35/hour, based on experience.

  • Employment Type: Full-time preferred; part-time opportunities may be considered.

Benefits:

  • Paid Time Off (PTO) and 6 paid holidays.

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.

  • 401(k) with employer match.

  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

  • Employer-paid life and AD&D insurance.

  • Voluntary life and AD&D, long-term care, accident, critical illness, and hospital indemnity insurance.

  • Eligibility for performance-based bonuses.

Why Join Mt. Scott Animal Clinic?

At Mt. Scott, you're more than a technician filling a position. You're an important part of a team that values your skills, supports your professional growth, and genuinely cares about one another. If you're passionate about anesthesia and surgical nursing and want to work alongside a compassionate team that takes pride in doing things the right way, we'd love to meet you!
