Job description

Revolution Medicines is a global, commercial-state oncology company dedicated to discovering, developing and delivering innovative medicines for patients with RAS-addicted cancers. Leveraging its differentiated RAS(ON) tri-complex inhibitor platform, the company is advancing a broad, integrated portfolio of oral RAS(ON) inhibitors designed to directly target the active, cancer-driving state of RAS. Founded on rigorous scientific inquiry and a willingness to challenge long-held assumptions, Revolution Medicines is committed to changing the trajectory of disease for patients with RAS-addicted cancers worldwide.

Our people are united by a shared way of working: follow the science, challenge assumptions, act with urgency and hold ourselves to a high standard of rigor—all in service of patients.

The Opportunity:

  • Lead RevMed's global tax function, owning strategy, operating model, governance, and execution across planning, financial reporting, compliance, and audits.

  • Align tax priorities with long-term corporate strategy, supporting OUS commercial readiness, international expansion, and sustainable growth while protecting financial position and reputation.

  • Act as trusted advisor to senior leadership: translate complex tax matters into clear business choices and anticipate risks and opportunities.

  • Build a scalable tax organization and develop leaders, partnering with Finance, Legal, and the business while staying hands-on in critical judgments and execution.

  • The role reports to Vice President of Finance and will represent Tax in front of the Audit Committee and senior executives.

Responsibilities

Global Tax Strategy and Enterprise Partnership

  • Set and own the global tax strategy and multiyear roadmap, aligning priorities, investment, and outcomes with corporate goals, capital needs, and growth.

  • Advise senior leadership on tax implications of strategic decisions (cash taxes, financial reporting, feasibility, compliance, reputation); escalate significant exposures to senior executives and, as appropriate, the Audit Committee.

  • Lead tax planning for corporate structure, financing, IP, licensing, collaborations, and transactions; partner with Legal, Treasury, Business Development, and Finance on diligence, structuring, and implementation.

  • Anticipate global tax changes, assess enterprise impact, and lead coordinated responses; establish tax policies, decision rights, and escalation thresholds.

International Expansion and Transfer Pricing

  • Own tax strategy and readiness for new markets with Global Finance and Legal (entity structures, registrations, operating models, transition to local support).

  • Lead global transfer pricing policy, intercompany pricing, documentation, and governance, aligned with business substance, IP, supply chain, and local requirements.

  • Partner with Commercial, Supply Chain, Treasury, and others on income tax, indirect tax, tariffs, withholding, and permanent establishment issues in cross-border operations.

Tax Accounting and Financial Reporting

  • Own quality, accuracy, and timeliness of global quarterly and annual provisions under US GAAP, including ASC 740 judgments, deferred taxes, valuation allowances, uncertain tax positions, and disclosures.

  • Oversee the Integration of tax into the close, forecasts, long-range plans, and cash planning with Corporate Accounting, SEC Reporting, FP&A, and Treasury; explain effective tax rate drivers and material changes.

  • Ultimate owner of tax accounting policies, documentation, and SOX controls; lead external auditor engagement on significant positions and resolve complex reporting matters.

Compliance, Risk Management, and Tax Audits

  • Oversee global tax team that manages global compliance across US federal, state, and international obligations; define responsibilities with Payroll, Legal, local Finance, Supply Chain and service providers.

  • Maximize tax attributes and incentives (R&D credits, NOLs).

  • Lead audits, inquiries, and disputes; represent RevMed with tax authorities and advisors, guide resolution strategy, and escalate significant matters through governance.

  • Set key performance indicators for an integrated tax risk framework, compliance calendar, and monitoring process to identify exposures early and sustain timely filings, payments, and defensible positions.

Functional Leadership and Scalable Operations

  • Design and lead the global tax organization (internal and external mix); own budget, workforce plan, advisor selection, and provider performance.

  • Recruit, coach, and develop tax leaders; establish succession and development plans, delegate decision-making authority, and hold the team accountable.

  • Lead the tax technology and process roadmap with Finance systems and IT to improve data quality, automation, controls, and integration.

  • Lead cross-functional change: build alignment, clarify ownership, and ensure readiness, training, and adoption of new operating models.

Required Skills, Experience and Education:

  • 16+ years of progressive corporate tax experience, including preferably 3+ years of VP of tax experience with substantial leadership of a global tax function or multiple tax disciplines in a complex multinational.

  • Bachelors in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA, JD, or equivalent. Advanced degree in taxation or related field required.

  • Deep expertise in US corporate and international tax, ASC 740, OECD BEPS, transfer pricing, compliance, and audits.

  • Experience leading tax reporting and controls in a public, SOX-controlled company, partnering with external auditors and senior finance leaders.

  • Success setting functional strategy, building scalable capabilities, and leading complex cross-functional, cross-jurisdiction change, including international expansion.

  • Ability to influence executives, explain complex issues to non-specialists, and manage relationships with tax authorities, auditors, and advisors.

  • Proven record building high-performing teams and future leaders with clear accountability and a culture of trust, feedback, and collaboration.

  • Enterprise perspective and strong commercial judgment.

Preferred Skills:

  • Biotech or pharma experience, including IP, licensing, and global commercialization.

  • Support of business development transactions, supply chain structures, and the shift from development-stage to broader commercial operations.

  • Implementation of tax technology and data improvements; mix of in-house leadership and public accounting or advisory experience.
