Job description

At Veracyte, we offer exciting career opportunities for those interested in joining a pioneering team that is committed to transforming cancer care for patients across the globe. Working at Veracyte enables our employees to not only make a meaningful impact on the lives of patients, but to also learn and grow within a purpose driven environment. This is what we call the Veracyte way – it’s about how we work together, guided by our values, to give clinicians the insights they need to help patients make life-changing decisions.

Our Values:

  • We Seek A Better Way: We pursue bold ideas, embrace complexity, and keep pushing forward.
  • We Make It Happen: We act with urgency, deliver with excellence, and always find a way.
  • We Are Stronger Together: We engage with empathy, align around what's best for Veracyte, and celebrate as one team.
  • We Care Deeply: We show up with integrity, kindness, and respect for one another.

The Position

As a Senior Software Test Automation Engineer, you will help ensure the quality and reliability of software that supports cancer diagnostics and monitoring. This hands-on engineering role focuses on building scalable test automation frameworks, reusable tools, and automated test solutions that enable teams to deliver high-quality Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) product. You will partner across Software Engineering, Product, DevOps, Verification, and Quality teams to embed quality throughout the development lifecycle while helping accelerate innovation that positively impacts patients' lives.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable test automation frameworks, libraries, tools, and reusable components using modern software engineering practices.
  • Develop and maintain automated tests for REST APIs, backend services, microservices, integrations, databases, business workflows, and end-to-end user scenarios.
  • Define and implement automation approaches spanning component, contract, integration, system, regression, and end-to-end testing.
  • Integrate automated testing and quality gates into CI/CD pipelines to provide rapid and actionable feedback.
  • Improve the reliability, maintainability, scalability, and diagnostic value of automated test suites.
  • Monitor and continuously improve test health by addressing flaky tests, unstable environments, coverage gaps, and execution inefficiencies.
  • Develop tooling and utilities for test data management, service virtualization, mocks, simulators, fixtures, and environment management.
  • Investigate automation and product issues across applications, APIs, databases, cloud services, containerized environments, integrations, and deployment pipelines.
  • Partner closely with software engineers to improve application testability and establish effective automated test strategies.
  • Create reusable frameworks, documentation, examples, and best practices that enable product teams to develop and maintain their own automated tests.
  • Participate in design and code reviews with a focus on quality, reliability, maintainability, and testability.
  • Establish and promote standards for automation architecture, reporting, diagnostics, and framework design.
  • Evaluate and implement emerging technologies, including AI-assisted capabilities, to enhance test automation efficiency and coverage.
  • Collaborate with Software Verification and Quality teams to support regulated verification activities and generate appropriate test evidence when required.
  • Perform exploratory or manual testing when it provides greater value or supports product risk assessment.

Who You Are

We are looking for someone who combines a strong software engineering foundation with a passion for quality, automation, and continuous improvement. You thrive in collaborative environments, enjoy solving complex technical challenges, and are motivated by developing software that can make a meaningful difference in patient care. We welcome candidates who may not meet every qualification listed below but believe they can make a strong contribution to our team. Supported by Veracyte's values of being stronger together, seeking a better way, caring deeply, and making it happen, you'll help drive both technical excellence and positive impact.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 – 7 years of experience in software quality engineering, software development, or test automation engineering.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience developing automation solutions using C#, Java, Python, TypeScript, or comparable programming languages.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, building, and maintaining test automation frameworks and reusable testing tools.
  • Proven experience testing enterprise-scale web applications, REST APIs, backend services, microservices, integrations, and cloud-native systems.
  • Strong software development skills, including object-oriented design, modular architectures, debugging, code reviews, version control, and automated quality practices.
  • Experience automating APIs, databases, distributed systems, and backend services.
  • Experience implementing automated testing within CI/CD platforms.
  • Hands-on experience testing cloud-native applications in containerized and cloud environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written communication, collaboration, and technical documentation abilities.
  • Experience working effectively in Agile software development environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong experience developing automation frameworks within the .NET ecosystem.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and modern cloud-based testing environments.
  • Experience with contract testing, service virtualization, automated test data generation, mocks, and simulators.
  • Experience automating non-functional testing, including performance, resilience, reliability, and security testing.
  • Experience leveraging AI-assisted technologies for automation development, maintenance, or failure investigation.
  • Experience developing or testing Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) or other regulated software products.
  • Familiarity with IEC 62304, ISO 13485, ISO 14971, and software validation practices.
  • Experience producing automated test results suitable for regulated verification activities.
  • Experience in healthcare, diagnostics, genomics, laboratory systems, or other regulated industries.
