Position Summary: ThayerMahan is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will focus on the design, integration, testing, and sustainment of electrical systems supporting maritime sensing platforms and acoustic intelligence payloads.
Role and Responsibilities:
Design, Maintain, and Improve Electrical Systems
- Design, develop, and maintain electrical systems for maritime and subsea systems.
- Design and integrate sensors, controllers, communications, and power systems.
Documentation:
- Create and maintain schematics, PCB layouts, wiring and harness designs, and support technical documentation.
- Review technical documentation, build guides, and wiring schematics.
Cross Functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate closely with other stakeholders to include other engineering and production teams throughout the product lifecycle.
- Communicate tradeoffs, risks, and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Occasionally support field deployments, customer demonstrations, and at-sea operations.
Strategic Long-Term Contributions
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team knowledge sharing.
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies, components, and design approaches.
- Work effectively with incompletely specified requirements and help define appropriate technical solutions.
- Quickly understand unfamiliar systems with minimal guidance.
- Balance short-term execution needs with long-term product goals.
Required:
- U.S. Citizenship (position entails access to Controlled Unclassed Information).
- Holds a security clearance or can obtain DoD security clearance.
- B.S., M.S., or M.ENG. in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- 8+ years of professional Electrical Engineering experience (or similar).
- Experience with PCB design and schematic capture.
- Experience developing wiring schematics, harness designs, and electrical documentation.
- Familiarity with electrical system integration and troubleshooting.
- Comfortable with hands-on work, including prototyping & testing.
- Proactive mindset with an ability to identify, develop and implement potential improvements to electrical systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred (but not required):
- Designing and documenting in KiCad.
- Experience with Autodesk software, specifically AutoCAD Electrical and Autodesk Vault.
- Experience working within Git & GitLab environments for version control & issue tracking.
- Experience working within or designing for maritime environments- including underwater electronics and sensor integration.
- Experience with communication protocols like I2C, SPI, RS-485, Ethernet, and CAN.
- Experience designing/working with FPGAs.
- Relevant IPC Certifications, including:

- IPC CID or CID+
