The successful candidate will assist with the detailed investigation, analysis and valuation of construction costs and claims.

This role would suit a commercially strong Contractor Quantity Surveyor who is comfortable working with large volumes of project and cost information and can interrogate records methodically to establish a clear evidential basis for quantum assessments.

Key Responsibilities

Reviewing contracts, bills of quantities, schedules of rates, variations, valuations, payment records and other commercial documentation.

  • Undertaking detailed measurement and remeasurement from drawings and project records.
  • Reviewing and valuing variations and additional works.
  • Analysing contractor cost records, including labour, plant, materials, subcontractors and preliminaries.
  • Preparing detailed quantum calculations and valuation schedules.
  • Reviewing claims for prolongation, disruption, loss and expense, overheads and other additional costs.
  • Reconciling claimed amounts against contemporaneous records, invoices, applications for payment and cost ledgers.
  • Preparing cost comparisons, reconciliations and supporting schedules, primarily in Excel.
  • Identifying gaps, inconsistencies and areas requiring further supporting evidence.
  • Assisting with the preparation of appendices, exhibits and schedules supporting expert reports.
  • Maintaining clear audit trails between source documentation, calculations and conclusions.
  • Supporting the Quantum Expert with queries and further analysis arising during preparation of the expert report.
  • Where required, assisting with the review and analysis of opposing party submissions and quantum assessments.

Requirements

We are particularly interested in candidates with:

A degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.

  • Strong practical experience working as a Quantity Surveyor, ideally with a main contractor or major subcontractor.
  • Excellent measurement and valuation skills.
  • Strong understanding of construction costs, variations, payment and final account principles.
  • Advanced or very strong Microsoft Excel capability.
  • Ability to interrogate large quantities of commercial and project information accurately.
  • Good understanding of construction contracts and contractual entitlement.
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to analysis.
  • Ability to produce clear, well-organised calculations that can withstand detailed scrutiny.
  • Ability to work independently while taking direction from a Quantum Expert.
  • Ability to prepare reports on quantum related matters would be advantageous.

Benefits

  • Work on high profile international disputes and expert witness appointments.
  • Become or retain position as an industry leading expert in engineering and construction law.
  • Access to continuous professional development and advanced legal/technical training.
  • Enjoy the flexibility of remote working with opportunities for global travel.
  • Join a culture that values integrity, accountability, commitment, and teamwork
