This is a paid internship, working 16 hours per week from Tuesday, January 19, 2027, through Friday, June 25, 2027. The current hourly rate is $19.61 per hour.

 

Position Summary:

KQED’s podcasts inspire and inform listeners, feed curiosity, and build community connections. Our shows are grounded in public service journalism, creative storytelling, and compelling audio design.

The KQED Podcast Operations and Engagement Intern plays a fundamental role within the department’s operations team and will work closely with the Executive Director of Podcast and Podcast Engagement Producer as they collaborate with podcast teams and other departments on audience growth and engagement efforts. This role will support KQED’s podcasts with tasks that may include: administrative support and copywriting for internal and external cross promos, data management, research, and other duties in support of production teams, as well as our audience engagement activities including social media content production, community interaction, and events planning.

KQED provide citizens of Northern California with a community-supported alternative to commercial media.   We provide citizens with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions; convene community dialogue; bring the arts to everyone and engage audiences to share their stories. We help students and teachers thrive in 21st-century classrooms, and take people of all ages on journeys of exploration- exposing them to new people, places and ideas


This role will work hybrid between working in KQED's newly renovated headquarters and working remotely.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist the Engagement Producer with the planning, scripting, filming and editing of short-form videos for Instagram, Tiktok, Youtube Shorts and other digital platforms
  • Assist with the creation and production of social media assets including video thumbnails, graphics, carousels, and other visual content
  • Write promotional copy for internal and external collaborators
  • Produce promotional audio material
  • Assist with the trafficking and distribution of promos and other audio content
  • Attend meetings, and support other engagement activities as needed

Knowledge/Experience Required:

Even if you’re developing these skills, we encourage you to apply! Many of these requirements can be learned or refined on-the-job:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Some experience with video and/or audio editing software 
  • Agility in using digital tools like Google Drive (Google Sheets, Google Docs, Google Slides)
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to meet deadlines and goals while working under pressure
  • An independent thinker and self starter who works well in a team environment

Knowledge/Experience Desired:

  • Strong desire for excellence in written communications and developing a brand voice.
  • Interest in short-form video production, filming and editing for digital platforms
  • Familiarity with video editing software such as Premiere Pro, CapCut or similar tools
  • Passionate about supporting communities in telling their own stories from their own experiences. 
  • Strong interest in podcasting, public media, social media, communications, digital media, marketing and design. 
  • Strong interest in innovation on social media platforms, including new and emerging media. 
  • Excellent understanding of social media platforms, audiences, trends, and tools.
  • Experience with photography, videography, graphic design or other creative projects is a plus

As an intern with the KQED Podcast department, you’ll get the chance to go behind the scenes of what it takes to run the business side of podcasting. You’ll dive into podcast metrics, contribute to promotional plans, learn about podcast audience strategy, flex writing and  production muscles, and interface with multiple podcast production teams.
