Job description

AST SpaceMobile is building the first and only global cellular broadband network in space to operate directly with standard, unmodified mobile devices based on our extensive IP and patent portfolio and designed for both commercial and government applications. Our engineers and space scientists are on a mission to eliminate the connectivity gaps faced by today’s five billion mobile subscribers and finally bring broadband to the billions who remain unconnected.

Job Summary:

We are seeking skilled and detail-oriented Avionic Technicians to support the assembly and integration of avionics systems within our satellite production line. The primary focus will be on harness dressing, routing, securing of wire harnesses, and the installation of avionics components in accordance with aerospace standards and engineering documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform harness dressing, including routing, lacing, shielding, and clamping of cables and harnesses within spacecraft modules.
  • Install avionics equipment (boxes, heaters, RTDs, connectors) following interface control documents (ICDs) and installation drawings.
  • Interpret and work from electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, installation drawings, and work instructions.
  • Ensure compliance with IPC/WHMA-A-620, NASA-STD-8739.4, and company quality standards.
  • Use tools such as torque drivers, wire strippers, crimpers, heat guns, and harness forming boards.
  • Perform point-to-point continuity checks and support in-process quality inspections.
  • Maintain cleanroom protocols and electrostatic discharge (ESD) controls during assembly operations.
  • Document work performed and report any non-conformances (NCRs) to engineering and quality teams.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, quality, and integration teams to resolve technical issues.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in avionics or aerospace assembly preferred.
  • 2+ years experience in avionics harnessing, preferably in aerospace or satellite manufacturing.
  • Proficient with harness dressing standards and practices in aerospace environments.
  • Familiarity with CIRRIS or similar harness testing systems is a plus.
  • IPC/WHMA-A-620 or NASA workmanship certification is highly desirable.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring schematics, and work instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and commitment to quality.
  • Willingness to work in a cleanroom environment with PPE as required.

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous experience in Aerospace, Avionics, LEO satellite assembly, avionics bay integration, or flight hardware installations is desired.
  • Hands-on experience with bonded connectors, backshell assembly, EMI shielding, and bracket installations.
  • Understanding of configuration control and traceability in space-grade production environments.
  • Must be able to work in either 1st shift, 2nd shift or 3rd shift or the weekends as required.

This job description may not be inclusive to the duties and responsibilities listed. Additional tasks may be assigned to the employee from time to time or the scope of the job may change as needed by business demands.
