Job Description

About the company

At Swift Solar, we’re building the future of solar. We believe that solar energy has vast untapped potential to reduce inequity and protect planetary health in the face of global climate change. We believe that today’s solar technology is good but not good enough. And we believe that what we build today should serve humanity forever.

Swift’s perovskite tandem technology breaks through the performance limits of existing solar technologies. By making solar better—more efficient, more affordable, and more widely accessible—we are helping to create a world where all energy is clean energy.

Swift Solar is a mission-focused startup funded by committed investors. We know it’s a long journey to take a new clean energy technology to market, and we’re in it for the long haul together. If you join us, you’ll play a meaningful role in taking Swift’s impact to the next level.

A day in the life

As a process technician on Swift’s evening shift, you will run one of Swift’s thin-film deposition tools. On a typical day, you will review experimental plans with the previous shift then execute these plans by performing tool setup, deposition and metrology for process control. You will organize and ensure proper sample transfer from and to other tools. Documenting the experiments in detail and summarizing your work in a written passdown are both essential parts of the role. You will help keep the tool running smoothly and efficiently, which entails managing supply needs, performing some tool-related maintenance tasks, and troubleshooting equipment issues by working closely with the equipment and maintenance teams. While this particular equipment will be your primary responsibility, you may  occasionally support the rest of the technician team by  running additional tools or preparing samples.

As an early hire, you’ll help craft Swift’s culture and technical directions. As our team grows, we’ll expect you to help mentor and set an example for new team members. You will find many opportunities to grow your own skills and capabilities, and we encourage you to take full advantage of them.

You might be a good fit if you...

  • Have 5+ years of experience in the use of vacuum thin-film deposition tools. You follow procedures and you take good care of the equipment you work with
  • Have worked safely and efficiently in a wet lab or semiconductor/R&D/manufacturing environment and have experience handling hazardous chemicals
  • Document your work well, communicate effectively and collaborate smoothly in teams
  • Have experience characterizing thin films and devices
  • Know how to use hand tools and power tools for maintenance work in a lab
  • Are ready to work a 1:30-10pm shift

A strong candidate might bring one or more of the following...

  • Experience developing and optimizing thin-film deposition processes
  • Hands-on experience with fixing various kinds of lab equipment
  • An appreciation for the urgency of the climate change challenge

The logistics

  • Compensation: Competitive package including salary, equity, and benefits
    • Expected Pay Range: $32.69 - $44.71 per hour + Shift differential
  • Ideal start date: April 2024
  • Job type: Full-time
  • Location: San Carlos, CA (Swift Solar HQ)
