The Lateral Maneuver Reasoning team owns the business logic that reasons about when and how the ADV may need to leave its current driving lane. It does so by consuming information about the road and the context of the scene, and building costs that influence how the ADV should navigate through the lanes of the road.
In this hybrid role, you will report to an Engineering Manager
You will:
- Manage a small-medium team to deliver on behavioral improvements in lateral maneuvers, including influencing tactical motion planning and strategic driving decision-making.
- Evolve a quantitative, data-driven approach to solving lateral maneuver reasoning product problems, and align team level metrics to company product goals
- Build quarterly and annual technical roadmaps that meet product requirements and manage work on the team towards those goals.
- Build effective team structures and cross team collaborations to launch cross-org technical deliverables.
You have:
- Strong experience being a TLM, managing small to mid size teams, and driving both day to day technical execution and longer term strategy.
- Strength and expertise in technical skills of data familiarity and successfully driving data-driven development in teams.
- Experience with people management, career growth, handling performance, cross team collaborations.
- BS in Computer Science with 5+ years of tech leadership and management experience
- C++, Python and large-scale system design
We prefer:
- ML expertise building metrics that put a hard number on product performance.
- Masters in Computer Science and 10+ years of software engineering experience

The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for the role location or, if the role can be performed remote, the specific salary range for your preferred location, during the hiring process.
Waymo employees are also eligible to participate in Waymo’s discretionary annual bonus program, equity incentive plan, and generous Company benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements.
