About the Role:

Gusto is looking for highly skilled and motivated Data Analysts with at least 7 years experience applying their expertise in a business environment. As a Staff People Data Analyst, you will play a crucial role in leveraging data to drive strategic decision-making and contribute to the overall success of our organization. The ideal candidate is a skilled data storyteller with a strong analytical mindset, top-notch SQL skills, the ability to create compelling self-service dashboards in Tableau, dedication to keeping data accurate and documented, an eye for data visualization design, and a passion for applying these skills to help small businesses thrive.

In this role, you will work closely with our People and Data Teams as well as a wide variety of  cross-functional teams within Gusto. As a People data expert, your work will support our People Team and business leaders’ efforts in attracting, activating, and retaining top talent. You will have the ability to shape the People data ecosystem and influence People operations and programs at Gusto by diving deep into our data to deliver insights and answer questions.

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

  • Data Analysis: Collect, clean, and analyze data to extract meaningful insights and identify trends, patterns, and correlations that inform people and talent strategy.
  • Reporting and Visualization: Lead the design, build, and maintenance of Tableau dashboards intended to answer critical business questions using people data (such as recruiting, turnover, DEI, and employee movement).
  • Work hand-in-hand with cross-functional team members to enhance their proficiency with understanding and using people data to make evidence-based decisions.
  • Demonstrate a Builder Mindset by being responsive, building and iterating quickly, taking ownership of the data needs and opportunities in your area, being curious, and overall producing data products that help the business.

Here’s what we're looking for:

  • At least 7+ years experience as a Data Analyst, ideally with expertise in People Analytics.
  • Experience working with and analyzing complex datasets including QA, querying, summarizing, visualizing and reporting findings.
  • Expert SQL skills and demonstrated ability to write efficient queries.
  • Expert Tableau skills and demonstrated ability to build scalable dashboards.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Excellent communicator - able to effectively deliver findings and recommendations to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and compelling fashion.
  • Data Modeling: Collaborate with the data engineering team to design and implement data models that facilitate data analysis, reporting, and business intelligence needs.
  • Data Quality Assurance: Ensure data integrity and accuracy by conducting regular data audits, identifying and resolving data quality issues, and implementing data governance best practices.
  • People Insights: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business stakeholders and strategists, to provide data-driven insights and support decision-making processes.

Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $133,000-$165,000/year in Denver, Chicago, and Atlanta, $145,000-$179,000/year in Los Angeles, and $161,000-$199,000/year for Seattle, San Francisco and New York. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
