Job Description

Company Overview

Abl believes every student deserves the opportunity to maximize their potential by making informed and meaningful choices about their lives and futures. Unfortunately, many students aren’t given the same opportunities due to systemic inequities perpetuated by outdated, unresponsive systems. Abl offers advanced, data-driven software and services to help K12 school and district leaders identify and remove those barriers to equity. The Abl team is made up of education leaders and experts working together with engineers, designers, and data scientists to build the tools schools districts need to shape pathways for each student to achieve success.

We are looking to add a talented Product Manager to understand our customers needs, define product strategy, and execute it into reality. The role will involve a high degree of prioritization, strategic thinking and communication, often in collaboration with other departments. As a part of the Product team, you will report directly to the Head of R&D.

Note to Candidates: Studies have shown that women and people of color are less likely to apply for jobs unless they believe they check all the boxes listed in a job description. We are most interested in finding the best candidate for the job, and that candidate may be one who comes from a less traditional background. We encourage you to apply, even if you don't believe you meet every one of our qualifications described.

In this role you will:

  • Design Thinking: Leverage different forms of research and customer feedback to understand and represent user needs and ideate on creative solutions, spanning new product opportunities to scaling and strengthening established features and products.
  • Executional Excellence: Accountable for quarterly roadmap prioritization. Partnering with Engineering, Data Science, and customer-facing teams to understand complementary or competing needs, you balance user, business, and technical needs to deliver high-quality and high-impact products from conception to release and iteration.
  • Operations-oriented: You’ll establish scalable cross-functional processes for product development projects. You’ll bring clarity from high level goals and strategies down to ensuring the appropriate level of details on edge cases. You’re a systems-thinker for the product features you spec to the product development workflow you support.
  • Results Driven: Formulate hypotheses, set goals, track results, and follow up on anomalies or trends, utilizing A/B testing when applicable to validate ideas.
  • Adaptable: You thrive in an environment where things change rapidly and are willing to adapt in order to meet the needs of our customers and business, while managing team expectations with grace.
  • Collaborative: You’ll work with the Head of R&D on the product direction and roadmap, and cross-functionally across various R&D teams and client-facing teams (Customer Experience, Sales, Marketing, Ops), to gather stakeholder input and communicate product development activities.

Ideal candidate:

  • You need to be focused and a proven executor with a mind for high-level strategy, prioritization, and also be obsessed about your attention to detail in execution.
  • Experience working across the entire product lifecycle from user research, to product design, development, launch and measurement of success.
  • You will need to have a strong "operations" process and enjoy creating structure, standardization and optimize for scale. You enjoy the “growing up” phase of startups preparing for scale.
  • You thrive in ambiguity– and have a knack for providing clarity and direction.
  • You’ve honed your interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire, influence and succinctly communicate the vision of the R&D team and motivate internal and external stakeholders

Bonus Points if:

  • Expertise in education- either designing products for or working in schools
  • Experience working with GTM teams to announce, release, and support launches from start to finish
  • Strong design intuition or design experience, comfortable with prototyping features, flows, and ideas

What we offer:

  • Competitive compensation
  • Flexible PTO for our employees to use as needed
  • Stock option plan to give our employees a direct stake in Abl's success
  • Comprehensive health coverage (medical, dental, vision) subsidized up-to 100%
  • Remote first company with in-person events throughout the year
  • Generous Parental Leave and Adoption Assistance for your growing families
  • Pre-tax benefits including 401k, FSA, and HSA with $1000 towards the account
  • Learning & Development opportunities and reimbursements for further professional training

Company Culture

Abl employees share a passion for revolutionizing education through school design, whether or not they have prior experience working in the field. We value diversity of background and thought. We strive to create a safe and supportive environment where trust, communication, creativity, and humility are valued as highly as technical skills. We believe shared ownership builds a more resilient company, and we tackle hard problems, together. If that sounds like your dream work environment, we look forward to hearing from you.
