Job Description

During our 10-week summer internship program, you’ll join our Product team who build and support big data services to power product, research, and therapeutics. We are seeking an intern who has a strong background in genetics and statistics who is enthusiastic about pairing population genetic tools with spatial data to help individuals gain insights into their health and ancestry. The intern will work closely with 23andMe’s Product R&D team which analyzes 23andMe participant data, generates novel findings regarding human genetics, and develops influential features for customers. The dates for Cohort 1 will be June 5, 2023 - August 18, 2023; the dates for Cohort 2 will be June 20, 2023 - September 1, 2023.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and/or implement statistical models using genetic and spatial data from populations.
  • Visualize and interpret results from geospatial analyses.
  • Create written reports and presentations summarizing research findings. 
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team.


What You’ll Bring

  • Graduated within one year or currently pursuing a graduate degree related to Biology or Genetics.
  • Experience with data visualization and statistical analysis in Python or R.
  • Experience with or an interest in geographic information system (GIS) software and analysis. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Enthusiasm for working in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Authorization to work in the US
