Job Summary

Kairos Power is seeking a highly motivated Senior Mechanical HVAC Engineer with expertise in design and construction of mechanical systems for industrial and/or laboratory facilities. In this role, you will be working with a cross-functional engineering team to design and construct first-of-a-kind industrial and radiological facilities owned by Kairos Power. You will provide field oversight and construction management support using your knowledge and experience with various MEP systems. You will be responsible for designing and supervising the construction and commissioning of major mechanical systems such as HVAC and other service utilities. In this role, you will frequently interface with internal engineers and external contributors to deliver the mechanical systems that will support the process equipment at our facilities.

Responsibilities 

  • Perform engineering designs and modifications for major mechanical systems that support high-hazard facility processes and operations
  • Develop equipment specifications for major mechanical systems and engage suppliers for equipment procurement and/or manufacturing
  • Specify predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance on various types of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, piping, and boiler systems
  • Develop design calculations, process flow diagrams, sequences of operation, equipment selection and layout, ductwork and piping sizing and layout, support of project proposals, interdisciplinary coordination and participating of QA/QC process
  • Supervise the engineering work of subcontracted mechanical design contractors.
  • Plan, organize, and supervise the construction, commissioning, and operation of mechanical equipment
  • Develop operating and maintenance procedures for mechanical equipment

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • 10+ years of work design engineering experience in high-hazard industrial environment or nuclear facilities
  • Registered P.E. (Professional Engineer) is preferred
  • Demonstrates strong technical HVAC design and execution capability
  • Knowledge in thermal load calculation and energy modeling for mechanical systems
  • Strong experience in calculating and sizing of mechanical equipment including AHUs, fans, boilers, and pumps; sizing and laying out ductwork and hydronic piping systems
  • Experience with fire protection systems is preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of mechanical and piping construction codes and standards
  • Exhibit strong communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to plan, organize, and direct work during construction and operations in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work with highly collaborative team
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently
  • Prioritizes and ensures safety of one self and others
  • Ability to proactively collect, manage and transfer knowledge
  • Ability to seek different and novel ways to create efficiencies when working on problems, challenges and issues
