With the world’s largest database of more than ten million genotyped customers, 23andMe is at the forefront of using human genetics to advance biomedical research and transform healthcare. We are looking for a seasoned executive who has a proven, deep background in acquisition marketing and media. This candidate will have experience with agencies as well as executing programs using in-house teams. The ideal candidate has experience with consumer health as well as subscription products. This candidate will be expert at all major channels: television (connected and linear), radio, direct mail, outdoor, online, search, PR and earned media.

What You’ll Do

Reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer, the Senior Director, Acquisition Marketing will be responsible for planning, executing and refining all of 23andMe’s media investments and their downstream metrics:  site visits, conversions, sales and purchase funnel measures (awareness, consideration, etc.).

You will manage a large media budget, ensuring the company efficiently delivers on its aggressive growth targets across all of its businesses.  In addition, you will proactively identify media tactics to simultaneously drive brand goals (e.g., total awareness), as well as support new product launches, brand extensions, international geographies, sales channels and entries into new target markets.

You will develop new acquisition strategies based on changing markets, competitive intel and your deep network of fellow marketers and agencies.

You will develop and manage sophisticated reporting on all marketing efforts, including multi-channel attribution, scenario planning, contingency development and next-dollar analytics.  Your reporting and projections will be used to develop the annual plan, refine company financial goals, and shape intra-year investments. 

You will serve as a highly visible leader within the marketing team, and represent marketing work and progress throughout the company.  A player-coach and talent-spotter, you will help develop our existing team and recruit new team members.

 

What You’ll Bring

  • A strong interest in consumer health
  • A minimum of 15 years of acquisition marketing experience, including leading teams, launching channels, optimizing campaigns and attributing results back to media investments
  • Terrific analytics, planning and communications skills
  • Experience in all media:  television, radio, direct mail, outdoor, digital … you name it, you know it
  • Deep interest in how to use media to influence consumer behavior:  frequency, multiple channels, targeting.  Strong position on how to sell things and how to move needles.  
  • Evolved understanding of attribution. Thorough understanding of attribution models, including their limitations
  • Independent POV, but also the ability to understand and collaborate with others.  An understanding of and feel for the brand side of marketing.
  • Experience with regulated businesses helpful
  • Experience in a startup environment
  • Ability to be both player and coach
  • Experience working against deadlines
  • Willingness to roll up sleeves and work alongside junior team members
  • Talent spotting and team member development skills.
