Scientist - Syntis Bio

The Role:

Syntis Bio is seeking a Scientist to develop and optimize solid oral dosage formulations of small and large molecules utilizing proprietary platform technology. The Scientist will develop formulation-function relationships and optimize stable and scalable compositions. The ideal candidate will also work with key internal stakeholders and external CROs/CDMOs. The role will involve a clear presentation of technical data in a multi-disciplinary, matrixed environment. The position will require occasional travel to CRO/CDMOs for both execution and oversight of key experiments.

Responsibilities:

• Build out composition space of solid oral dosage forms
• Propose new formulation strategies for optimal performance, production, or stability
• Develop a deep understanding of how formulation affects various aspects of function
• Optimize or establish ex vivo tissue assays
• Interpret, analyze, present, and properly record data
• Support general lab upkeep (receiving, labeling, safely storing reagents, etc.)
• Manage multiple projects and maintain expertise in formulation strategies for various targets
• Apply broad drug delivery expertise to other projects and propose new formulation functions
• Prepare documents and presentations that encompass project progression
• Perform job-related duties as assigned

Ideal Skills:

• PhD with 3+, MS with 5+, or BS with 10+ years working in the Biotech/Pharma industry with a degree in bioengineering, materials science, formulation sciences, chemical engineering, or physical organic chemistry
• Comfortable with scientific ambiguity and has experience navigating it
• Expertise working with drug formulations (liquids, suspensions, solids, and colloidal systems, etc.) for oral delivery, including those containing polymers and additional components known to improve in-vitro dissolution kinetics and increase in-vivo relative bioavailability
• Experience with solid-state characterization, including, but not limited to DSC/TGA, PXRD, FTIR, SEM, BET, DVS
• Skilled in collaborating or working with animal models (rodents, dogs, pigs)
• Exposure to regulatory CMC requirements for early and late-stage clinical programs for medical devices, extended-release dosage forms as well as drug/device combination products
• Strong record of deliberate mentorship or management of research technicians
• Proven ability to lead the scientific direction of a project
• Solid written and oral communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
• Conscientious team member with experience taking and giving constructive feedback
