Product Designer

Job Description

🏗 What problems are we solving?

We're on a mission to modernize finance for construction, an industry that employs 1 out of every 10 workers, but lacks good software tools to get the job done. Payments in construction are fundamentally broken — the antiquated billing process hasn't evolved in decades, and construction is one of the slowest industries to get paid in. We've found a unique wedge into this huge market and are growing quickly.

🔹 Why are we building this?

Millions of hardworking people are affected by this broken system — in turn making construction more expensive and inefficient for society every year. When everyone up and down the chain is on the same page with payments, contractors can focus on actually building, instead of mountains of paperwork. We’re reimagining construction finance to help contractors get paid, grow their business, and build a better future for all of us.

đŸ•ș The Role

Siteline is looking for an experienced product designer to lead and own our design efforts. You’ll partner closely with our product manager, engineers and customer success team to build and ship impactful solutions and experiences. Your challenges as a designer will include abstracting away complexity, simplifying workflows, and creating moments of delight for our customers.

We are a team of product-minded people passionate about improving efficiency and visibility for real people doing hard jobs. Construction is an enormous industry, but so few designers are focused here and existing tools routinely under-invest in user experience. If you like engaging with complex B2B processes and forging simple, elegant solutions, we look forward to chatting to you.

This role is based in San Francisco.

🎒 Responsibilities

  • Immerse yourself in company strategy, user research, and data to understand our biggest opportunities for growth and platform evolution
  • Deeply understand a complex problem space and find simple, powerful design solutions
  • Partner with Product Management to explore ideas, leveraging different types of feedback from customers (e.g. interviews, usability tests) and a variety of design tools
  • Partner with Engineering to understand the technical constraints of a project, and make pragmatic tradeoffs on designs
  • Craft your designs through every stage of the process: from exploratory concept through pixel-perfect, shipped UI
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams via regular design critiques and working sessions

👋 What We're Looking For

  • 3+ years of experience as an in-house product designer on a small team or early-stage company
  • You’re a generalist at heart with experience in UI and UX
  • You can create clear, intuitive, and visually appealing human interfaces
  • You can untangle vague conceptual problems, and have a sharp intuition for the most accessible flows, so users can immediately start gaining value out of Siteline
  • You’re a good communicator who enjoys collaborating with other design-minded teammates in Product Management, Engineering and Customer Success. You know how to lead a cross-functional team through a journey of divergent and convergent thinking, and clarify how everything fits together.
  • You’re proficient in Figma and stay up-to-date on modern design and prototyping tools
  • You’re a self-starter who likes having a lot of ownership. You proactively find opportunities for impact. When you get stuck, you rely on first principles to unblock yourself.
  • You’re comfortable in an early stage startup, can balance many simultaneous projects, and thrive in fast-paced and changing environments. You take ideas from concept to production, and prioritize well along the way.
  • You’re genuinely excited to sprinkle some design love and serve a large, dusty, and underserved industry with millions of hardworking, straight-talkin’ people
  • (Bonus) You’re excited to be our de facto Creative Director and oversee the work of a contract brand designer. This is not a requirement for this role

đŸ‘« Company values

Be worthy of trust
We work to create an environment where our customers, partners, and teammates feel safe and supported, always. We take a long-term view of relationships and follow through on the promises we make. We are committed to building a culture where everyone feels like they belong and actively prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Focus and flow
We are selective about the problems we solve and how we solve them. Focusing on the right things helps us work in a flow state, resulting in more creative ideas, faster progress, and greater impact. We establish clear areas of ownership, so we know who's got the ball on what.

Create magic
We love our customers and work backwards from their needs. We sweat the details and work relentlessly to build smarter systems that solve real problems. We take big swings and look toward the long term, finding moments of delight along the way.

Keep learning
We are curious, open-minded, and unafraid of the unknown. We actively invest in learning because we believe that when we grow as individuals, we grow as a team. We challenge ourselves to aim higher and make better mistakes every day.

At Siteline, we're looking for people with passion, grit, and integrity. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't precisely match the job description. Your skills and passion will stand out—and set you apart—especially if your career has taken some extraordinary twists and turns. We know that diverse perspectives foster the innovation we need to be successful, and we are committed to building a team that encompasses a variety of backgrounds, experiences, and skills. Join us.
