We are looking for a Principal Engineer to lead development of the next generation collaboration experiences for customers and migrate our systems into a decoupled architecture allowing our team to build and deploy solutions quickly and independently. In this role, you will be working with our product managers, UX designers, and principal/senior engineers within the team and across the company to build modern, frictionless, and enterprise-scale user experiences for our customers.

You will report to our Senior Director located in our Bellevue, WA office, or you may work remotely from anywhere in the US where Smartsheet is a registered employer.

You Will:

  • Build scalable services for the next generation of Collaboration Experiences at Smartsheet 
  • Solve challenging distributed systems problems and work with modern cloud infrastructure (AWS, Kubernetes)
  • Embed with teams to mentor and make direct individual contributions but also advise senior leaders to shape the technical vision for Smartsheet.
  • Guide and mentor team members regarding architecture, operational excellence and best practices
  • Forge strong partnership with product management and other key areas of the business
  • Influence and mentor other teams of engineers, acting as a technical design mentor and providing architectural and design input

You Have:

  • 10+ years software development experience building highly scalable, highly available applications
  • 10+ years of programming experience with full stack technologies such React, Java, Kotlin or TypeScript
  • 2+ years of experience with cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, etc.)
  • Experience developing, documenting, and supporting REST APIs
  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • Legally eligible to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis

Smartsheet provides a competitive range of compensation for roles that may be hired in different geographic areas we are licensed to operate our business from. Actual compensation is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, level of professional, educational experience, skills, and specific candidate location. In addition, this role will be eligible for a market competitive bonus and RSU stock grant upon accepted offer. California & New York: $199,800 to $275,400 | All other US States: $185,000 to $255,000.
