Who You Are
We are seeking a highly motivated Patent Agent to join our Legal team in a dynamic biotech environment. This role will be responsible for managing the company’s patent portfolio, supporting patent prosecution, and collaborating with R&D teams to develop IP strategies that protect our innovations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, or a related field, along with experience in patent law.
Responsibilities
- Patent Preparation & Prosecution:
- Draft, file, and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications.
- Work closely with external patent counsel and USPTO to manage office actions and responses.
- Conduct prior art searches and patentability assessments.
IP Strategy & Portfolio Management:
- Develop and implement IP strategies to protect key innovations and align with business objectives.
- Maintain and manage the company’s patent portfolio, ensuring timely filings and renewals.
- Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and business teams to identify patentable inventions.
Freedom-to-Operate & Due Diligence:
- Conduct freedom-to-operate (FTO) analyses to assess potential risks and opportunities.
- Support IP due diligence efforts in licensing, collaborations, and M&A activities.
Legal & Business Collaboration:
- Provide IP training to scientists and technical teams to foster innovation and awareness.
- Collaborate with legal, R&D, and business development teams to align patent strategy with licensing and/or commercialization efforts.
Education, Experience, and Skills Requirements
Education:
- Advanced degree (Ph.D. or Master’s) in chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, or a related field.
Certifications & Licenses:
- Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
Experience:
- 5+ years of patent prosecution experience at a law firm and/or in a biotech or pharmaceutical company.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. and international patent laws, prosecution, and regulatory guidelines.
- Experience working with small molecule therapeutics is highly preferred.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess complex IP landscapes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly in drafting patent applications and collaborating with scientific teams.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, innovative environment.

At BridgeBio Oncology Therapeutics (BBOT), we strive to provide a market-competitive total rewards package, including base pay, an annual performance bonus, company equity, and generous health benefits. Below is the anticipated salary range for candidates for this role who will work in California. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will depend on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type, and length of experience within the industry, educational background, location of residence and performance during the interview process. BridgeBio Oncology Therapeutics (BBOT) is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions based in other states.
