Laboratory Systems Engineer 

Redwood Materials is looking for a Laboratory Systems Administrator or Engineer to join the Analytical Laboratory team to develop and maintain information management and quality management systems. This position will involve implementation and improvements to systems used to facilitate various business processes. This role will work collaboratively with technical experts, lab technicians, managers, and cross-functional teams to define and implement standard and sustainable practices. This role will require learning and becoming the subject matter expert of our LIMS software. This position will work with vendors, lab personnel, technical experts, and managers to ensure inventory, equipment, calibration, and documentation, and data traceability needs are maintained within the laboratory.  

Responsibilities will include: 

  • Work with cross-functional teams to develop system requirements and feature requests 
  • Define software/system requirements based on business process needs 
  • Support the development, deployment, maintenance, and improvement of LIMS software 
  • Provides specific training as needed within LIMS 
  • Manage calibration schedule of equipment in the laboratory 
  • Manage and maintains equipment and consumable inventory across multiple laboratory sites 
  • Updates, revises, and maintains quality policies, procedures, and documents for the laboratory 
  • Willingness to support other laboratory functions when needed, including sample and task management and data validation 

Desired Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant scientific, engineering, or technical field 
  • 2+ years of demonstrated computer science, systems, engineering, or similar experience 
  • Has worked in a high-paced, metallurgical laboratory (strongly preferred) 
  • Skilled in database development and administration of LIMS software 
  • Experience with development and use of quality system elements, data mining and visualization, and software applications such as SharePoint, PowerApps, PowerBI or similar 
  • Competency in technical writing of quality documents, technical methods and standard operating procedures, and executive summaries and reports 
  • Willingness and enthusiasm to work in an ambiguous environment without predefined standards 
  • Able to effectively communicate to deliver trainings and to ensure healthy relationships with multiple departments in the company 
  • Ability to execute with a calm and collaborative urgency 
  • A passion for sustainability and making the world a better place! 

The position is full-time. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
