Description of the role: 

We’re looking for a people and process-oriented Head of Warehousing & Delivery to manage, build and transform our warehousing, furniture refurbishment, delivery process and teams for the seven current warehousing and delivery sites, as well as future expansions. Critical to your success will be an expertise in managing, developing, and supporting Warehouse Managers as well as building scalable, high-quality processes.

This role will be filled by a seasoned leader who is energized by growing, developing, and inspiring people.  This individual must be passionate about delivering the best experience to our customers, while being both process and people-savvy. This leader will be a problem solver, iterative leader, and scrappy as they make methodical progress toward a higher-level future state from an early stage startup. They will also be an incredible leader and developer of people, driving organizational vision, goal accountability, and professional development for a team of leaders.

The ideal candidate is able to think both tactically and strategically, ensuring that both the operation is successful today and that the organization learns and improves every day. This leader also can see around corners and think several quarters out, so that they might drive the improvement and capabilities today that lead to the needs and targets of the future. Adaptability, continuous learning, accountability, ownership, people development and leadership are all critical to thriving in this role.

Responsibilities include:

Operations, Continuous Improvement, and Strategy

  • Own the performance and drive improvement for the warehousing and delivery network’s Safety, Quality, Delivery Experience, Inventory Accuracy, Productivity, Cost, and Sustainability
  • Work with Warehouse Managers to problem solve challenges in operational execution 
  • Drive improvement initiatives and process implementation across warehouses
  • Use the Sales and Operations Plan to effectively forecast labor to demand growth and seasonal fluctuations gracefully and drive to hiring and cost management goals
  • Train and implement Safety Programs following OSHA guidelines, drive reporting transparency and processes and improvements across the network
  • Build and own inventory control and accuracy processes and drive a quality mentality across the network
  • Represent the warehouse and delivery teams on cross-functional teams and in company meetings through open, proactive, and constructive communication and collaboration 
  • Make informed decisions and respond to changing operational needs effectively
  • Identify, define, and improve current/new processes for the entire network. These processes are complex in nature (cross-functional, manual, and with limited available data or tools) and require a deep understanding of the operation (current state assessment) and solutioning (root cause and tradeoffs between quick wins vs long term changes)
  • Lead execution plans for all strategic initiatives and drive rigor for clear problem and solution definition, milestone reporting and accountability, and results
  • Work together with Merchandising, Marketing, Sales, Product, and Finance to define new warehousing/delivering capabilities needed to support business needs

People

  • Set performance and development goals for the operations and the individual warehouse managers, coach and support them to success, and ensure accountability to metrics, goals, and initiatives
  • Demonstrate leadership by guiding warehouse managers through periods of ambiguity and encouraging the same mindset within the team
  • Recruit, interview, onboard, develop, and retain an exceptional team 
  • Develop and train warehousing and delivery teams in operational excellence, problem solving, and overall warehouse management improvement programs
  •  

The ideal candidate has:

  • 5+ years of Warehouse and Delivery Management experience in a leadership role as well as 2+ years managing multiple sites
  • Experience using and improving WMS/IMS and other technology systems
  • Expertise in lean, six sigma, or other continuous improvement and problem solving frameworks and the ability to educate and utilize to drive results 
  • Proven success leading leaders and driving results and accountability through clear goal setting, development, and people management
  • Effectiveness in building processes, teams, and operations from zero to one, and then to scale
  • Ability to handle multiple, and at times, conflicting priorities
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
  • Ability to effectively manage distributed teams across sites that span three different time zones
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and G Suite (Google Sheets, Docs, Slide), a familiarity with Slack, and a love for learning new systems
  • Preferable experience in the furniture industry and/or circular economy operation
  • Preferable 4 year college degree in supply chain, logistics, operations management, business, or equivalent

Yearly Salary Range: $110,000 - $135,000 with generous benefits and perks, as well as stock options for every employee!
