About the role:
This individual will serve as an Engineering Director for the hardware engineering group and work with software, applications, systems, industrial and manufacturing engineering teams to develop and deliver high-performance, industry-leading robots. This individual with work directly for the VP of Hardware Engineering to direct and oversee all aspects of hardware engineering activities at the company. This director will establish policies and procedures that produce high-quality hardware products.
About the work:
- Leverage both internal resources and external partners to enable Agility’s hardware engineering group to deliver advanced products
- Identify staffing requirements and priorities and lead hiring efforts
- Keep abreast of all group initiatives/blockers and drive resolutions
- Be trusted to make independent program decisions of relatively large scope with minimal oversight
- Understand business objectives and ensure engineering alignment
- Lead by example by implementing best practices and exhibiting excellence in own work
- Maintain a positive, collaborative and productive work environment
- Foster a culture that promotes collaboration, communication, and respect for unique approaches to problem solving
- Conduct annual performance reviews with staff
- Identify and implement improvements for tools and resources
- Identify, monitor and communicate risks and dependencies to executive leadership
- Be available as a mentor to engineering leads and managers
- Independently conceive organizational initiatives to improve operational effectiveness and make recommendations to leadership
- Lead and support mechanical, electrical, robotics and analysis group managers
- Develop and maintain engineering portions of program schedules
- Manage group resources and budgets and provide status reports to leadership
- Ensure that engineering requirements are satisfied in designs
About you:
The successful candidate should be an excellent coach, mentor, communicator, and leader and have:
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering/science/robotics
- 15+ years of relevant experience with Bachelor’s degree
- 7+ years of leadership experience in hardware, electrical or electromechanical systems and products
- Systems Engineering experience
- Effective communication skills and demonstrated success in a team environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to work across disciplines to build consensus and drive complex systems to completion
- Ability to drive team success through technical direction and empowerment
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Robotics experience and leadership in robotics organization
- Advanced degree in engineering/science/robotics
- Experience with agile development
- Jira/Confluence experience
- Smartsheet experience
