About the Role

The EHS Advisor reports to the Global Operations & EHSQ Adviser. The EHS Advisor is expected to develop, maintain and protect Environment, Health and Safety standards on the site assigned,  in accordance with current Environment, Health and Safety regulations, client and Cool Planet specifications. The EHS Advisors are tasked with the development, implementation, and oversight of work safety programs and procedures. EHS Advisors maintain safe work environments by identifying and correcting possible safety hazards, testing and maintaining safety equipment, responding to and rectifying any safety or health incidences on work sites, and conducting safety training for contractors and other Cool Planet employees. The EHS Advisors are also responsible for keeping a consistent and accurate record of employee training, incident reports, and ongoing safety programs. The position requires work in both office and field settings, meaning that travel is required for the role. Outside of time spent travelling, the EHS Advisors typically work during regular business hours.

Key Responsibilities

  • Visit sites and investigate potential concerns, identifying improvements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems, updating documentation and training.
  • Document problems and make recommendations to improve sites.
  • Ensure the Project Manager issues weekly EHS reports (updated daily via dashboard) with the EHS information onsite and sends to the distribution list designated for that site.
  • Report any incident that occurs onsite and also contact the client’s Health and Safety Manager, using the EHS communication channels adopted by the company worldwide.
  • Produce along with the Project Manager, the EHSQ Plan for each project he/she acts as EHS lead and ensure the clients sign and approve them before a project kicks off.
  • Update EHS spreadsheets: Accidents/Incidents register, EHS Project Overview, Weekly Dashboard.
  • Work closely with the Project Manager to ensure they strictly follow the EHS procedures on the site - Including Vetting process, Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS), site inductions and Job Safety Documents (JSD).
  • Support the Project Manager in assessing all the EHS documentation issued by the contractors - SWMS (or RAMS), training certificates, plant & equipment certification.
  • Act as a consultant in terms of local EHS legislation and standards applicable to deliver a project with 0 injuries, 0 professional illnesses and 0 environmental impacts (negative).
  • Conduct weekly audits and create action plans to close actions that do not comply with the standards stated in the audit. This will help increase the score of the audits progressively (continuous improvement).
  • Participate in daily project  calls with the internal Cool Planet team of the project and with the client to follow up with the activities that come up on a weekly basis.
  • Create Job Safety Documents (JSD) and client’s Work Permits in general and for the specific dangerous works (Work at Height, Electrical, Hot Works, Lifting, etc) on a daily basis for every physical work performed onsite.
  • Check and update legal and client compliance for Environment, Health and Safety in the project and report continuously to the Global Operations & EHSQ Advisor.
  • In cases of emergency, they may be required to be on call in order to provide guidance and logistical support.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Certificate or Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Minimum of 2 years of post-qualification experience in a similar position (EHS) in a related sector e.g. industry, construction, etc.
  • Previous experience delivering Health and Safety training and delivering professional presentations.
  • Relevant operational awareness and experience.
  • Strong IT experience essential, particularly the use of spreadsheet, word-processing and presentation software for report generation and analysis of data.
  • Ability to communicate in other languages - apart from English - is a plus.
  • Ability to collaborate and work with others
  • Ability to provide detailed and thorough analysis of problems and solutions.
