Alloy’s single API enables its customers to access about 150 third party data sources in real-time to improve decision-making and streamline customer experiences.

Alloy is the industry leader, working with companies like Brex and Marqeta, as well as top 20 banks. We're backed by venture capital firms that have taken countless companies to IPO like Lightspeed Ventures, Bessemer Venture Partners, Canapi Ventures, Primary Venture Partners, Eniac Ventures, and others and well positioned to bring on incredibly talented individuals to help take us to the next level!

Alloy operates in a hybrid-work environment. We look to foster collaboration and community by having our New York team on-site twice a week, and our remote employees on-site three times a quarter. Join an exciting startup company in the fintech space named one of Inc. Magazine’s Best Workplaces, Best FinTech to Work for by American Banker, and Best Place to Work by Built in NYC year after year.

What you'll be doing

The Ongoing team at Alloy focuses on enabling Alloy’s decisioning platform to more seamlessly and effectively detect and remediate risk and fraud for our clients through the entirety of a consumer or business’ relationship with our client. Fraud and risk do not stop at onboarding but continue to occur, if not more, on an ongoing basis.

The Director of Engineering will partner with the Director of Product to lead and manage the development of the next set of features and products to fight fraud.

Reporting to the VP of Engineering, this role is part of the technology leadership group responsible for setting high-level goals and ensuring the overall success of engineering initiatives. At Alloy, Engineering leaders manage their teams to deliver against OKRs but not at the expense of engineering culture. You’ll prioritize well-reasoned ideas that improve our engineering operations and reward the people who bring those ideas to light.

Successful candidates will have a track record of building high-performing engineering teams; will draw on prior system building experiences to guide tradeoff decisions and anticipate future challenges, and have a willingness to dive into building new systems and processes as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead three managers and their teams
  • Develop industry knowledge in support of making informed engineering decisions

  • Work with the product team to set expectations, allocate resources and prioritize, and follow through on our commitments

  • Create/maintain an environment where teams have product ownership and a sense of purpose

  • Accelerate teams: increase velocity and lower change failure rates by continuously improving the software development process

  • Give engineers the processes, management, mentorship, and tools to ship the best products (such as a comprehensive knowledge base, uncomplicated org structure, learning opportunities, simple processes, and technical standards)

  • Responsible for the happiness, retention, advancement, and performance of multiple teams of product-focused software engineers

  • Support and grow engineering leaders

  • Take ownership of issues and lead teams to success

  • Manage through conflict wherever it arises

  • Communicate, Communicate, Communicate

We are looking for

  • 9+ years of professional software development experience

  • 5+ years of professional experience leading technical engineering teams and projects

  • 3+ years of end-to-end responsibility for complex and business-critical systems.

  • Curiosity to develop industry knowledge/expertise: While existing security and compliance industry knowledge is not a requirement, this person is expected to learn the space and become an expert over time.

  • Ability to build good relationships with stakeholders, product partners, engineers, and peers

  • Effective communication with both business and technical teams

  • Comfortable with continuous delivery and fast-paced product development

  • Technical credibility

  • Ability to transition between high-level strategy and day-to-day implementation

  • Results-oriented, high energy, self-motivated, and accountable

  • Humble - agrees with the philosophy of servant leadership; you lead by pointing people in the right direction and being there to help support them along the way, not by micromanaging or demanding

  • Must be local to Greater NYC. We are a hybrid office located in Greenwich Village

Benefits and Perks!

  • Unlimited PTO and flexible work policy; we are remote for most roles!

  • Medical, Dental, Vision, HSA employer contribution, FSA, and FSA dependent programs

  • 401k with 100% match up to 4% with immediate vesting and eligibility

  • 16 week Parental Leave

  • $500 to set up your WFH space

  • Monthly commuter contribution

  • Monthly credits to shop at Public Goods

  • Monthly credits for Seamless

  • Monthly wellness credits to ClassPass

  • Annual Citi Bike membership

  • Annual $1,000 learning & development stipend

  • 4 free therapy sessions and 1 year of talk therapy
