About the role:
The Owkin R&D department aims at making new biomedical discoveries building on high-quality datasets. Blending expert data science teams with background in computational biology and machine learning, the department provides solutions in biomarker discovery, drug positioning and optimized clinical trials.
The Applied Discovery group of Owkin R&D is looking for a promising research intern to focus on deep learning methodologies to connect bulk RNA-seq and single-cell RNA-seq to predict cell type fractions from mixtures. As part of the project, the intern will have the opportunity to survey, implement and compare existing approaches, as well as develop new methodologies. We expect the intern to collaborate closely with the multidisciplinary teams.
This internship provides a unique opportunity to study a fast-growing and important field, with clear applications for target identification.
As your main missions, you will:
- Collaborate closely with, and receive mentorship from the other members of the R&D team;
- Conduct primary research and numerical validation on your topic of study, including re-usable software implementations;
- Contribute to regular research review;
- Report your detailed findings to the group.
This position is primarily based in Paris, France. Ideally you are able to join the team in Oct, or early Nov.
About you
Required qualifications / experience:
- MSc year 2+ level in machine learning;
- Motivation to work at the intersection of biology and AI
- Excellence in communication and technical writing
- Experience in Linux/Unix-like environments and Python
- Experience with deep learning frameworks (Tensorflow, PyTorch, etc.)
- Fluent in English (spoken and written)
- Authorization to work legally in France
Preferred qualifications/bonus:
- Experience working with omics data (e.g RNAseq, scRNAseq)
- Experience developing and training deep generative models (e.g VAE)
- Participation in data science projects and competitions
- Fluency with Git and basic software engineering patterns
- Contribution to publications in conferences and journals
