Job description

NerdWallet is looking for a Senior Tax Manager to take part in NerdWallet’s mission to provide clarity for all of life's financial decisions. This is a unique opportunity to scale a tax function in a rapid growing and profitable company and to help build a world class accounting team. We are seeking a self-starter with a demonstrated history of identifying issues and problem solving. This role will manage our domestic and international tax functions and report to the Corporate Controller.

Where you can make an impact:

  • Take on responsibility to serve as the point of contact and consolidate overall management of 3rd party service providers
  • Ensure accurate, timely filing of consolidated federal, state and local income tax returns and other business related filings
  • Manage in the preparation of the Company's quarterly and annual income tax provision calculations and related financial statement disclosures
  • Facilitate R&D analysis conducted in order to qualify for R&D tax credits
  • Build a deep understanding of the business and its transaction flows to assist with researching potential tax implications, including interacting regularly with key individuals of other relevant departments (legal, HR, etc.) to understand other business developments or transactions that could have a tax impact and engage/consult as necessary with 3rd party service provider
  • Ensure tax compliance in foreign jurisdictions, analyze international tax planning, oversee transfer pricing policies and related contemporaneous documentation, and assist with the impacts of international tax on the US tax provision
  • Manage the response to notices from local tax authorities
  • Bring additional value by identifying tax planning opportunities, and identifying tax issues proactively vs. responding to the tax implications of business developments/transactions after the fact
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effects of these developments to management and the tax team and create strategies to capitalize on changes to taxation legislation
  • Build and maintain effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax process

Your experience:

  • Strong experience with a variety of tax operations and ability to drive process improvements
  • 5+ years of corporate tax manager experience, with the ideal candidate having a mix of both private/Big 4 experience with at least two years in a managerial capacity
  • Preferred candidates have a current CPA license and a master’s degree in an accounting discipline
  • In-house tax experience is strongly preferred
  • Ability to work well independently as well as the ability to work well with stakeholders and communicate the benefits of tax initiatives
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with all levels of management
  • A strong ability to work in a team environment and willing to "roll up your sleeves”
  • Profitable Tech/StartUp company experience is desired
